My DS will be one at the end of the month and still doesn't drink from both sides or take longer than 5 minutes to drain me. The few times he has, he usually ends up spitting up, so I don't force him to use both. I have no supply issues and have probably 8-10oz per side when I pump.

These babies get smart fast. Most likely your little one is getting exactly what he needs. You are just an efficient producer and he is an efficient eater!

As long as weight gain is good, don't fret. As for discomfort, I would have to hand express to relieve pressure or simply stand in a hot shower and let the milk leak on its own

It does even out eventually and you won't get as engorged. Just for fun though, I still leak heavily from the unused side, but it seems to happen most frequently when I am in a public place without a spare shirt! Totally worth it!
