Help: Baby is too busy to nurse!

My son is 7months and EBF. He and I travel a lot and when he gets hungry and we stop to eat, he will not nurse! He is too busy looking around in the car and out the windows. I have tried covering him up so that he cannot look around but it does not work! Any suggestions?

Very common for a baby that age, and very frustrating! I tried nursing my distracted babies in a dark quiet room.

ETA - justnoticed the car is your issue....what about a small toy or nursing necklace for him to play with while he's eating so he's not looking at what's going on outside? Covers never worked for me at that age, either.

It is frustrating, just like him rolling round and round while I try to change him!
I like the idea of the nursing necklace! That just might work! Thanks!

My 7 mo old DD is like that too. She has a really tough time nursing anywhere but in bed--and even then it's better if it's dark.

I guess we should just be glad that we can still get them to nurse at all

Have you tried nursing while he's still in the carseat? Super uncomfortable for me, but that's the only way I can get my DD to nurse while traveling... otherwise she's way too busy playing with the seatbelt, door handle, door lock, car seat straps, seat pocket, head rest, and trying to kiss her reflection in the window

Re: Help: Baby is too busy to nurse!

Thanks for the advice! I did try that yesterday and it did work but like you said...it is super uncomfortable. I was afraid I would not be able to walk when we finished I am glad I am not the only one that has to do crazy things like that. Today I nursed him in the car with a charm bracelet on and he played with it and nursed! I was so glad.

Re: Help: Baby is too busy to nurse!

I just came into to this forum to ask for advice for the same thing. My little one just turned 7 months today and lately he only nurses a few minutes to sometime 10 minutes each time I try to get him to nurse during the day. He is so excited about crawling around and exploring and does not want to be held. The only time he is content nursing is at night and wakes up every 2-3 hours to nurse. I am going to try some kind of necklace and charm to see if that works for daytime nursing.

That sounds EXCATLY like my little one! It is frustrating, but at least they are growing and happy to explore their world.
