Re: Do your kids' names have family meaning?

We actually do the opposite, and try to stay away from family names. Although within our little family we all have M middle names. MIL's middle name is Marie, so even though that would fit with our M middle name thing, we won't use Marie because we don't want to use family names.

Re: Do your kids' names have family meaning?

all of our kids have family names for their middle names. dd's is elaine (dh's meme's first name). ds1's is michael (dh's middle name). ds2's is charles (my grandfather's first name). and then if this one is a girl the middle name will be mae (my nana's middle name), and if a boy the middle name will be holt (my meme's maiden name).

We did not name any of our kids for family, but we did make sure that each name had meaning.

My daughters first name is the same as her great grandmother's and her middle name belonged to two of her great great grandmother's (first name of one, middle name of other)

Re: Do your kids' names have family meaning?

DS's first name is a combination of his father's full name. DS has my last name, which DH and I agreed upon. My father has only daughters and no one to carry on our last name in this country, so I thought it would be a nice gesture. I also kept my last name (as did my oldest sister). My in laws didn't exactly approve, but that's fine with me.

Re: Do your kids' names have family meaning?

Yes:

DD is Victoria Elizabeth. MIL was Veronica Elizabeth. We call her Torie for the uniqueness (less affliation with a person).

Baby #2 will be:

If boy: Lukas James (my great grandfather was Lukasz, James- my husbands great grandfather).

If girl: Eloise Jane. Growing up there was a little old lady who didn't have any children and lived across from me, her name was Louise. She was important to me and I always wanted Louise (infact that's what I wanted to name dd but DH didn't like it). Now that we are pregnant again, while I do like Louise my nicknames for Louise became popular here. So I went with a varietation. My husband and I both have an aunt jane in the family.

If baby 2 is a boy or girl, nickname is "LJ". LJ is the uniqueness so there is less affiliation with anyone.

Our Eloise was very close to being Eloise Jane! We switched it at the last minute!

Mikhaela Harriet = M for her maternal grandpa, Harriet for my mom who passed a few years ago.

Joshua Pfeifer - Joshua is the *only * boy name hubby and I could agree on, and Pfeifer is a family name on my hubby's side.
