Hi there! I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist (well, just resigned to be SAHM). Anyway, I absolutely LOVE the food chaining approach with Cheri Fraker and Laura Walbert. They have a fantastic blog. If you end up going the therapy route, ask your SLP if they are trained in this approach. It is, by far, the most comprehensive approach to pediatric feeding/swallowing disorders that I am aware of.

To me it doesn't really seem that he has an issue, I mean he could but it sounds like he's just not ready for solids. You should check out Kellymom's section on delaying solids. But I wouldn't be too concerned about a 6 month old that can't swallow properly. Did you know that their primary source of nutrition for the first year is supposed to be formula or breastmilk? Giving solids in that time is just to get them used to eating, so I wouldn't even do anything until he gets to about 9 months and still has issues
