My mom wanted me to drive with her to Edmonton when DD1 was a little baby, to see some family. That's a 12-ish houir drive. I made some comment about how the trip will take forever having to stop and nurse every couple hours. My mom seriously thought I'd just hold her and nurse her while we drive, why would we have to stop?
She says when we were babies she'd put us in the snugli in a front carry and get in the car and go. I don't remember ever having a carseat or booster or anything.

I don't remember ever having a car seat either. I do remember sitting in the front passenger seat of my grandpa's old truck and my mom's 1970 Chevy Impala when I was 4 years old. My mom did at least insist that I wear my lap belt, though. lol

You should look into this further. Solid steel vehicles were not "safer" because they were thicker/heavier/stronger/more solid than plastic. In many instances, older vehicles are less safe than newer ones, for a variety of reasons.

Re: Did he SERIOUSLY just ask me that?!?!?!

The first couple of cars that my parents owned and I rode in as a baby and young child (up until about 6 or 8 years old) did not have seatbelts let alone carseats.

My parents are pushing 70 and before I had kids they likely never thought about carseat laws given that they never even had a child who was required to be belted in let alone in a carseat.

well, it doesn't really matter anyways since there are carseat laws now

Not only that, but my first car did not have shoulder harnesses in the rear seats. Granted, it was a used car and I am older than a lot of you, but it isn't unreasonable that grandpa might not be up on carseat safety laws.

It just baffles me. I mean, I KNOW times have changed.. I just thought that even grandparents would be "with the program" on car seats by now.

God bless!
I think that makes him less likely to remember. My dad loves babies and is very hands on with them by he had 4 younger siblings, 3 kids and 5 grand kids. It's basicly one long blur of diapers and Dr. Seuss. I think at some point you really just stop paying attention to what the baby trend of the day is.
