I don't know what to do (vaccinations)

My daughter is 12 weeks old and she needs to have her rotavirus vaccine before she is 15 weeks so I need to decide soon if I should get it for her or not. I'm so afraid of vaccines and don't want to give her any, but at the same time I need to do what is best for her. I am so conflicted. I just need some advice. I'm doing research, but everything is so one sided. Any advice? Words of encouragement?

You can find all the research you want to support either decision. In the end you need to do what you feel is right.

Why does she need them before 15 weeks? Take some time and think about it. You can always get them whenever it feels right (or not at all).

Re: I don't know what to do (vaccinations)

Some vaccinations have "seasons". I think it was rotovirus that my ped didn't even advise at the time with my daughter because it was spring or summer and she said that it wasn't necessary?

Anyway I've done a lot more research now and won't be vaccinating until after this baby isn't EBF anymore, if then. But that is just me; lots of people come to different conclusions. Circumstances vary- I take care to eat a very good diet, my kids aren't in contact with hundreds of other kids, I EBF until 7 months or so, then introduce nutrient-dense, immune-boosting foods. Because of this I feel that the risks of vaccination outweigh the risks that my child will have major complications from a vaccine-preventable disease. I might not feel that way if I didn't try so hard to strengthen their immune systems without the vaccine, though.

Re: I don't know what to do (vaccinations)

My research either says completely vaccinate or vaccinations are evil. I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I want ingredients and risks and information. In the end I just want to make the best decision for my daughter.

The Rotavirus vaccine, I was told had to be given before 15 weeks. If I missed the date I would need to go to a doctor and arrange if she would be able to get it. I don't know why that is, but I was told that today at the health unit.

Re: I don't know what to do (vaccinations)

I am in the exact boat as you. My gut really tells me not to do vaccines but at the same time I almost feel guilty for it. I know I don't want DS to have any before a year so that made the rotovirus a no for me. I felt this overwhelming relief when he hit 15 weeks and it was too late.

ETA: I really liked the Dr. Sears book on vaccines. FOr example, there are a few PC and HIB I think (my booked is packed away to move or I would check) that is you wait till 15 and 24 months (not sure which is which) you can give them only 1 shot for full immunity rather than the 3 shots. If I get those thats what I'll wait for.

The CDC has info on all the vaccines, including their ingredients and reaction rate.
