Re: let's be honest about rashes
My son has had rashes in cloth. It took me a while to figure out the cause, but it's b/c he needed a stay-dry inner against his skin AND breathable fleece or wool covers. Natural fibers and PUL covers were pretty much the worst combo for him
Once I got that situation resolved, he still had issues w/chafing on his inner thighs. I had to apply Northern Essence to the area several times/day to keep him clear. And, now, if he's in a poopy too long he'll get a rash. I'm sure it would happen regardless of the diaper since it's a poop rash. Just want to say that I do not PURPOSELY leave him in a poopy, but I am very congested right now, he's not on a poop schedule, and if he doesn't tell me he has "poo pants", and I don't see him acting like he has "poo pants" he may have it on too long

Re: let's be honest about rashes
DD is 3 mos old and it seems like she gets a rash instantly if I dont use something with a stay dry inner.
currently trying to decide if I should give up on some of our fluff!

I use sposies for about a week every 2-3 months. DD2 has extremely sensitive skin, and while she does MUCH better in cloth, she is prone to lingering rashes which develop into staph, and I wait for it to clear up because it does so faster in sposies.

I've never had rashes with either of my two, we've never used a disposable. I changed diapers within 1min of wetting/etc. and wean off diapers by 6m as well.

Re: let's be honest about rashes
The only rash my son has ever had in a disposable was with grovia hybrid disposable inserts. Cloth on the other hand, none since we got rid if our 4.0s.

Re: let's be honest about rashes
My baby is 17 months and he has never had more than a little pinkness for a couple of hours. He wears cloth during the day and a disposable at night. My first wore disposables all the time and she kept horrid rashes, open sores, yeast etc. My first son wore disposables all the time and never had a rash. I think a lot of it depends on the baby.

Re: let's be honest about rashes
We almost never have rashes in cloth. The one rash my DD has had was very minor until we went on vacation and used disposables and it got worse. We were able to clear it up when we went back to cloth. My DS wore disposables for a year and cloth for a year and he never once got a rash in cloth. For us it is mostly true. That is just my individual experience. I have heard the "babies in cloth don't get rashes" thing but honestly it's so ridiculous I didn't really think that anyone believed it. Obviously that's false. Every child and situation is different.
The reality is babies sometimes get rashes no matter what kind of diaper they are in. Sometimes it's their poop and sometimes it's the chemicals in disposables and not being changed frequently enough. Sometimes with cloth it's that they are simply not clean. Treat each occurrence differently. I would not be shocked or surprised with a rash in cloth for whatever reason just the same as a rash in sposies would not stun me. When you have a LO with sensitive skin peeing and pooping on themselves for 2 years straight all day every day...well things happen. No need for anyone to beat themselves up about that.

Re: let's be honest about rashes
you are right, every child is different. My youngest had bleeding rashes all.the.time until we switched to cloth. And I changed him very at the first hint that he was wet at all. He has not had one rash in the 2 1/2 years that he has worn cloth except. My mom kept him over night for me and got the bright idea to buy a pack of sposies for house, so she did not have to use the cloth. I picked him up the next morning and his butt was raw with little places bleeding.
