My kids aren't really old enough for Barbie yet, but I have no problems with the dolls. I also wouldn't have any restrictions on their use.

No. I think they are inappropriate and a completely unrealistic view of what a real woman looks like. I simply tell dd mommy doesn't like them. If other people want to let their kiddos play with them that is fine by me I simply dont want them in my house or to support Barbies. I saw a comparison once at the Science Museum in Boston comparing Barbies measurements to that of a real woman and if Barbie were an actual living person with those measurements she wouldn't be able to stand up, she wouldn't be able to physically support her own body weight based on her proportions. It has stuck with me and having battled eating disorders in the past and poor body image I don't want to endorse that body type as "ideal" or "perfect". I may be reading too much into a child's toy, but we are all entitled to our opinions. :-)

Yup we have them and don't have any issues with them. I don't like the Bratz dolls though.

Oh, of course! My son even took both legs off of a ballerina Barbie, after my daughter used her a few times to pry open the gate and made her hips weak.

Re: Do you let your girls play with Barbie dolls?

I remember loving my barbie and Kelly dolls. I never used them as fashion dolls, or dressed them up. I used them to make adventure stories or play family. If my daughter wants barbies I will buy them, but with some restrictions. I don't want her to play with dolls dressed as hookers. My barbies had age appropriate clothing.

DD hasn't really shown any interest in Barbie yet, but when/if she does, that's fine by me.

My daughter is almost 4. Probably not to the Barbies. There is another line of doll you can clothe and pose that look more like girls than women and I'd be seeking that if my daughter wanted that sort of thing. I wish I could remember the brand. Something hearts, I think.
