Sick 5 week old

My almost 2 year old has a cold and cough, and this morning my 5 week old started coming down with it. Dd1 was seen for it yesterday and dr said upper respiratory infection. Should I take my 5 week old in?

Call your pediatrician and see what they say but if she's running a fever or it's interfering with her feeding then yes, I'd say take her in.

When my son was 2 weeks old he caught his brother's cold. I took him in. They checked his oxygen and his ears. Both were ok. But I felt better knowing that since I coukdn't check that at home.

I'd call the office and ask them.

Re: Sick 5 week old

It is awful for a newbie to get sick but unfortunately with siblings that can happen I would keep a very close eye on a baby that young but would not run right to the office for fear of exposing them to more germs. If baby is eating, not running a high temp, urinating, and not showing signs of respiratory distress they should be fine. Respiratory distress in an infant would be rapid breathing(more than 60 per minute when resting) or pulling where their chest pulls in instead of raising when they inhale. You can also see it in the depression at the base of the throat. It will pull in if a child is struggling.
