Help! Teething diarrhea!

DS hasn't gotten any new teeth in a while but now it looks like he's got 4 side teeth coming in all at once. One has just started breaking through and I can see where his gums are swollen on both sides, top and bottom. For the past 3 days he's been not sleeping without ibuprofen at night and had diarrhea. Like leaking out of the diaper diarrhea. Is there anything I can do to help? I've already cleaned the carpet twice today...

Re: Help! Teething diarrhea!

Aside from making sure there's nothing in his diet that could be aggravating the diarrhea, I don't know. My son had the same thing to the point of his bottom bleeding. It was awful.

I'm certainly not of a big help, but from what I remember doing with DD1 I put a cheap fleece soaker over her regular diaper. As for rash cream, a good thick heavy layer of grandma els (she had a baaaad rash! Baking soda in the bath water helped too) And for pain, homeopathic Camilia, or if it's worse Tylenol suppository. And change diaper as often as possible.
My DD2 is 8mo and still no teeth so I'd love to get some other tips.
Good luck mama! I hope your LO will go through this as soon as possible!

Bananas will bulk it up a little. Avoid stonefruit and pears for a few days.

Re: Help! Teething diarrhea!

I'm sorry mama. The same thing happened to my DD when her first 2 molars came in. Her poor bottom was so red.

If you can, try and give him some diaper free time. I know you run the risk of poop everywhere, but maybe put some towels down, or do it outside where you can hose down or something. Also, what PP said about baking soda or oatmeal baths to soothe the bottom.

I found that fruit irritated her even more, so for those couple days, I gave her very little. She loves strawberries, oranges, and tomatoes but they made her poop even more acidic, so we cut them out until it passed.

Poor guy. Have you tried the BRAT diet? Bananas, rice applesauce and toast - Those are foods that will usually help with diarrhea.

Re: Help! Teething diarrhea!

Thanks, Mamas! I'll try these tips out for sure. Earlier he leaked out again while he was playing but luckily he came and showed me so I didn't have to find it my self. Oh, and he's had his two front bottom teeth for a while but I just noticed the very tips of the ones next to them poking through. 6 teeth at once?! Hopefully once all these come through we'll get a break for a while.
