Once upon a time I worked at JoAnns as a teen/college student. We cut 1/8 yards and when calico went uber cheap I would cut 1/8 yard from 40 bolts sometimes. Part of the job. I do agree with the grouchy but though i worked with some VERY special ladies back then

The cut is the same regardless of how long the fabric cut is. Whether its a quarter of a yard or 4 yards, it still only requires one cut to remove it from the bolt.

Having said that, check the remnants for what you need first. Remnants are often just less than a yard, and they are, at least at JoAnns, 50% off whatever the current price is. And I think this week they are having a sale on remnants that takes 50% off that! It might be next week that that sale starts. I think, I can't remember and my sale paper is upstairs.

They do, but the prices are inflated, and I prefer long strips.
