Do I replace my stash or go sposies?

I can't decide what I want to do.

DS2 is a very husky little 27 month old. We are having leaks galore on his Flips/4.0 stash, even after replacing all the microfiber. They are just too small.

I'm trying to decide if I want to a) invest in 2 dozen Toddler Osocozy prefolds and 6 more Capri covers (I have 5 already) for a new stash. cost: $192; or b) just put him in sposies for the first time in his life until he PLs in 6 months for so. cost: $360 if he PLs on time, $$$$ if it takes a while.

My concerns are that we'll still have leaks in the capri/prefold combo, that he has to be in sposies for preschool anyway (2 mornings per week), and I have a lot of trouble finding clothes to fit him because cloth compounds his chub.

But if he takes longer to PL than DS1, it could potentially be a loooong time in sposies. And I loathe the smell of them. And it's not like sposies are leakproof.

What do you think?

What inserts are you using in the flips/4.0s now?

Re: Do I replace my stash or go sposies?

since you are unsure if making a large purchase of newer diapers will work, what about seeing if you can buy some gently used diapers (online or if you have any local mam friends who use cloth) that you could buy (or even borrow to test out) and then purchase a few of those? I wouldn't spend a lot- especially if you do not know if that combo will work. Try 1 or 2 first. Maybe post in the ISO forum for some trades?

Do you think your DS is ready to use the potty? I know we made the choice (and DD1 was already showing signs of readiness) that at 26 months we deciding not to purchase large diapers and just did the 3 Day Potty Training method instead and it worked! (1.5 days for pee and 1 more month for poop). Maybe just get a few to hold you over and alternate with diapers? You can also get bulk diapers online at a much cheaper price if needed (even ones that are a bit more earth friendly). Just a thought.

Flip inserts with a newborn doubler in the Flips and both inserts in the 4.0s. And my inserts are new, so it's not that the microfiber is matted. I just can't get a good fit anymore. I can barely get them on him. The Capri covers are great-- he wears them at night with minimal leaking and his diapers weight about 1,000 lbs in the morning.

I think it is the microfiber actually. It sounds like compression leaks. I really dislike microfiber and this is the main reason. Once saturated they act like a sponge if you put pressure on it. I personally would not go to sposies. Who knows how long you would be doing that. He could PT in a few months or you could still be in diapers this time next year. I would try some padfolded flats and some new capri covers. They are trimmer so even if you needed to add doublers ( I would recommend Hemp Babies) it would still not be too fluffy.

I agree I'd buy different inserts for then first. You can even put prefolds in the 4.0. I'd start with buying the prefolds and then if needed buy more capri covers.

It could take more time for him to PT. You never know. Plus you can always sell them to recoop some money.

Doesn't it take longer to potty train when babies use disposables?
