Hello mamas,
I have a 7mth old thats not inreasted in solids at all! Everytime I try he makes a funny face like its disgusting! All my other babies never had problem with solids. (hes my 5th baby) All hes getting is BM. Hes a chunker so im guessing hes getting plenty but DH is worried and thinks that if he would eat solids he would wake up less at night. Any thoughts? Re: 7mth old not intreasted in solids, should I be worried?
My DS1 was exclusively BF until 6-7 months when I switched to formula. I never tried cereal or anything with my kids until 6 months old. I tried him and he was not interested and didn't know what to do with the spoon- just kept sticking out his tongue. I waited for a while longer and tried again, so he didn't have any solids until 8 months and is totally fine. As long as he's satisfied with BM and doesnt have any interest in food, your son will be fine, too. Doesn't sound like he needs extra calories or nutrition at this point since he's a chunker.
Now you would never know my son didn't want food, as he is 13 and loves to eat! I wouldn't stress about it and he'll let you know when he's ready. |

No reason to worry
Some babies start solids later than others, some even after a year old. As long as he is healthy, happy, nursing well and on track with his growth and development, you are golden

Definitely don't worry! Food should not replace breastmilk (or formula) at all until a year anyway- it's just for fun and for learning!

Re: 7mth old not intreasted in solids, should I be worried?
Nope! My baby girl is 8 months and was interested in solid food at about 5 months and then at 7 months stopped being interested and refused to eat it. I talked to a speech therapist (yes they specialize in getting kids to eat) and my pediatrician and they both said she was fine and didn't need anything other then breast milk/formula, s there when she would get there when she was ready again!

Re: 7mth old not intreasted in solids, should I be worried?
My first daughter was like that and didn't really start to like solids until closer to 10 months. Since your little one is a 'chunker' I wouldn't worry at all. Try to keep it fun and not stressful and he will come around.

Nah! My 3 yr old didn't really want much besides BM until around 10 months when he could pick it up and feed himself. Just didn't like purees I guess. I worried about it then, but he was happy and he is a very healthy boy with a good appetite.

My 8 month old just starting to accept solids. And they better not be puréed because she gags up a storm! All my other babies ate cereal then purées, then simple finger foods and dd wants none of it. She will eat about 10 pieces of a banana cut up and cut green beans or toast but not really anything else.
She is also a chunker and stil nursing a lot. I'm not willing to cut back on the breast milk yet though as I think it more important.

Re: 7mth old not intreasted in solids, should I be worried?
My youngest (coming up on one year) didn't start eating solids until about 10.5 months. She was almost appalled with food. Now she will eat almost anything we put in front of her. She was just one of those late-eaters.
