mold spots?

Last night as I was putting away diapers I noticed a swaddlebees 2.0 diaper had black spots on the cotton part. It almost looked like black mold spots (but had been washed so just black staining). Could it be mold? What can I do? I can't find a lot of info from googling about cotton diaper and mold(seems more common on fleece) and I'm worried all my diapers that I washed with it will be moldy.

I remember the last time the diaper was worn, it was on Tuesday, it was a poopy diaper and my mom couldn't believe I was just going to toss it in the pail(he hasn't started solids yet). She cleaned it in the toilet then put it in a plastic grocery bag and put it in the pail. It was the first diaper after a wash so it was in the pail till Thursday (or maybe Friday). I'm in AZ so it is hot and dry so I'm surprised if it is mold, but don't know what else it could be. Does anyone know how I can tell if it is mold or what it could be?

It sounds like black mold from being kept wet and hot in a plastic bag. If so, it won't come out, and it isn't something I would continue to use. Your other diapers are probably fine, but I wouldn't continue to wash it with them.

Can you post a pic? My guess is that it is a mildew stain. I had that happen to one of my Babykicks pockets and I was never able to get it out, even with direct on the spot bleaching. I figured I killed whatever was there and continued using it with nothing ever spreading to my other diapers. However, I retired rather than sold it when DS outgrew it.

Yeah, it sounds like mold to me. Bleach it to kill the mold. The stain likely won't come out, but it will keep it from growing and should be fine once it is clean, even if it's not pretty.

Re: mold spots?

Hope you don't mind But I added it to my photobucket so I could post it in your thread for you:

It does look like either mold or mildew staining. I would bleach it. I've had it happen to a prefold before.

Re: mold spots?

What she did was probably one of the worst things you could do for a cloth diaper. Oy. Good luck getting it out; I'd use bleach for sure.
