Front Loader Questions
I'm starting a new job in two days which will involve CDing one 16 month old and I still get to see Boston on Mondays so I'll also have a 15 month old in diapers that day.
This family has a front loader. I've never been plagued by issues like stink and rashes that a lot of people with front loaders seem to experience. I owned an HE top loader for a short time and quickly ditched it for my cheap and trusty non-he machine. With Boston I pretty much narrowed down my entire stash to 30 fitteds and wool, eliminating PUL. I was really stash content. But I'm afraid that my fitteds won't get clean enough in a FL. I thought that I had decided on a mostly flats/flips stash with some BG pockets and BG Organics for convenience. And then I saw someone say that they have issues with BG's suedecloth holding stink and not getting clean enough. Now I'm debating doing all wool in twos - Loveybums, I think. But I'm worried that the multiple layers of the contour won't get clean. If you have a FL... What diapers are in your stash? what wash cycle do you use? Detergent? How often do you strip? Do you have issues with stink or rashes? Anything else that I should know or consider? Sent from iPhone which is out to get me for some reason that is unbeknownst to me. Re: Front Loader Questions
If you have a FL...
I have an LG front loader that was purchased last year ![]() What diapers are in your stash? We have used mostly BGEs since my baby was born last year. what wash cycle do you use? "brightest whites" w/ a prewash and extra rinse Detergent? All F&C w/oxyactive (NOT the regular kind) How often do you strip? never. Bleach maybe every few weeks just because I think it is good maintenance. Do you have issues with stink or rashes? never. Diapers have never smelled in the pail even after 3 days. Anything else that I should know or consider? BGEs with this wash routine and detergent have been absolutely the best combo in my 8 years of cloth diapering Good luck at the new job!

I'm still pretty new to cloth (babe is only 3m old) but we had stink at the start and have got it fixed now so I'll answer anyways.
If you have a FL... What diapers are in your stash? -- Flips (with stay-dry inserts, BG 4.0s with MF inserts and some flour sack flats in Thirsties Duo Wrap covers what wash cycle do you use? -- Bulky on hot with water plus selected. Pre wash first with nothing. Extra rinse and spin added if load smells really strongly of detergent at end of cycle Detergent? -- Tide ultra powder HE How often do you strip? Never have officially stripped diapers. But again it's only been 3m Do you have issues with stink or rashes? -- Had stink about a month and a half ago. Used bleach on all microfiber and switched to Tide. Was using Nellies before and it clearly wasn't working for us. Haven't had to use bleach since. I don't have any stains since switching to Tide either and my babe is EBF. Anything else that I should know or consider? -- The water plus button made such a huge difference for me. Use it if you have it! Or I would add a wet towel to the load to trick the machine into thinking there is more to wash in there than there actually is. Mama to a small little Bean [b. 4.2.12] |

Re: Front Loader Questions
I have a Samsung HE front loader, about a year old.....
What diapers are in your stash? terry and hemp Fitteds, Capri cotton inserts and Thirsties hemp prefolds, basically no synthetics, except my fleece liners...we don't even do stay dry what wash cycle do you use? I do a hot rinse (58 minutes) with a splash of bleach, then I do a Heavy Duty wash (about 2:16).......I've heard sanitize is too much, but I would use it if I started to get stinkies Detergent? Tide ultra HE powder seems to work best - can't find original powder here How often do you strip? Haven't had to since we ditched disgusting microfiber when ds was about 2 months - he's 7 mos now Do you have issues with stink or rashes? nope Anything else that I should know or consider? hard water makes FLer even more challenging. I think avoiding synthetics is key, b/c it's harder to clean them without lots of water, in my experience. Or that could be my hard water. I don't know. ETA: If you don't have a water plus button (I don't, and I bought ours before baby was born, so I wasn't thinking of this necessity), you can do a short wash with no spin after your initial rinse/spin cycle...this tricks the washer into working with more water.

Re: Front Loader Questions
I love our Samsung FL, and I live in an area that has moderately hard water, too
![]() What diapers are in your stash? Fleece outer/microfleece or suedecloth inner Green Acre Designs pockets, Preston's Pants pockets, and DryBees pockets; premium cotton PFs, pocket fitteds w/natural fiber outer/bamboo inner, pocket fitteds w/natural fiber outer/microfleece or suedecloth inner; fitteds made of cotton velour, bamboo velour, or bamboo fleece (some have stay-dry inners some do not); hemp babies Bigger Weeds and Flats, cotton flats, JoeyBunz hemp inserts, cotton fleece inserts, cotton terry inserts, and BabyKicks XL Toddler size hemp PFs; fleece diaper covers what wash cycle do you use? I generally wash on the "Heavy Wash" cycle and the highest soil setting, plus I add all the extra washes and rinses the machine allows (there is also a "MyCycle" option that I have not bothered to learn how to use )Detergent? Tide Free and Gentle OR 1/2 Tide Ultra + 1/2 Country Save How often do you strip? Never Do you have issues with stink or rashes? I always wet-pail the nighttime diaper inserts (XL Toddler BabyKicks hemp PFs and cotton insert) and run a rinse/spin w/bleach, then add the rest of the diaper laundry and run a regular wash. Recently I decided to skip adding water to the wet pail, but do everything else the same, and it was a big mistake b/c all the nighttime stuff had bad ammonia and my son got a sore on his penis My son will get rashy if he wears more than 2 natural fiber-inner diapers consecutively. He's pretty sensitive and needs the stay dry. Also can't wear PUL w/o a rash so we mainly use fleece covers. Anything else that I should know or consider? FLers are your friend

![]() Thanks for the feedback so far. Maybe I shouldn't be afraid to use my fitteds. Hmmm. Sent from iPhone which is out to get me for some reason that is unbeknownst to me. ISO YN Munki Sushi, AhMay sets, Small BG AIOs in twilight, grasshopper, ribbit, clementine

I've tried and used everything and had no problems with my FL. The only time I've had stink was when I tried Rockin Green. I've been cd'ing for over 2.5 years now and I love my FL'er!
