No, really...I will do it until they absolutely refuse to have me do it anymore. But even when the day comes when I don't tuck in and read stories and all those things, I will still make it a point to give kisses and hugs to whatever extent the kids are comfortable with. I think it will always be important to say goodnight and show my kids I love them before bed.
My parents said goodnight to me in my room before going to bed until I moved out I moved back in for a few months at 24 when I moved back to Calif from NY and they went right back to it!

My oldest is 7, and I would say that he puts himself to bed about half the time but we have to prompt him to shower and brush his teeth etc. He likes someone to read to him or tell him a story, and he has music he likes to hear. He also has to have his light on so we always turn it out after he's asleep.

My mom always came in to tell me goodnight, even when I was older and stayed up reading in bed, etc. I always plan to tuck my boys in w/a kiss and tell them goodnight. Even when Dominic puts himself into bed, we do come in and say goodnight I love you.

Y'all have convinced me to not give up on bedtime. Honestly, I dread it, but I love it at the same time. It's just that I'm not good at getting dinner ready as early as I did when they were toddlers, so it's always a rush to get them in bed and this summer they have been going to bed late every night. And with the 5mo here, trying to put her to bed and the big kids and keep my sanity is tough.

I would say 8 to 10 years old. My oldest is 4.5 and she still needs supervision when preparing for bed and having the transition of tucking in and a bedtime routine.

I still tuck my kids in and give them kisses at 5.5 and 7.5. I think I'll do it for as long as they let me!

Re: What age do you stop putting the kids to bed?

I still put mine to bed for the most part. Hugs, kisses and tucking in. Theyre 8 and 4. The only time I dont is if I'm feeding the baby, but I'll go in after that and give them kisses even if they're sleeping already.

I will do it until they stop asking, or tell me to stop.
