Re: What age do you stop putting the kids to bed?

At 4 and 5 years of age we are all crawling in to bed together at the same time and DH usually reads a book and tells stories and whatever else he does. I think it just depends on each family.

we don't do a full fledged routine every night, but we do some form of tucking them in every night. MIL did it with DH and his siblings until they moved out, and they've all said it was one of the most special things she ever did for them. They often had really good talks and stuff during those times.

I do a bedtime routine with books with my kids and I plan on doing it until they don't want us to. They put themselves to sleep after the routine though. I don't sit with them until they are asleep.

And with the 5mo here, trying to put her to bed and the big kids and keep my sanity is tough.
I completely understand that. I was getting really stressed out the last month of school after my last was born having to get dinner, baths, and to bed at a certain time. We've now fallen on a lax everything later summer schedule. I've started wearing the baby while we brush teeth, read stories and do tuck ins. She's content and I'm able to tend to the older kids. I'll nurse her while we read if she's wanting to. I then get her down after the others.

I still tuck mine in (almost 5, 3.5, and 1) and plan to for a long while yet. They brush their teeth, get their jammies on, and then I (and Daddy when he's working day shift) come in and read stories, say prayers, and do hugs and kisses.

Mine are 7,4, and 3 and I still tuck them all in and put them to bed every night. My 7 year old and probably 4 year old are certainly capable...but I like our wind down time at night. Books and snuggling

Re: What age do you stop putting the kids to bed?

DD is 3.5 and I plan to tuck her in as long as she will let me. I think it's important. I don't necessarily want to stay in there with her until she falls asleep like we have to now (which we are desperately trying to not do anymore), but reading a story, giving a kiss and saying sweet dreams is a great thing to do befroe falliing asleep. I was tucked in until middle school (maybe 12ish) probably, it wasn't real time consuming at that point but my mom would kiss me good night, say sweet dreams, etc and turn out the lights.
