spot on two yr olds tooth

YDD will be two next week, I noticed a spot on her molar a week ago. Its kind of dark gray. At first I though it was a bit of stuck meat but I have brushed it thoroughly with no results. She doesn't seem bothered by it at all and I feel she is too young to have it treated if its a cavity. Does anyone know of anything I can use to make sure it doesn't get worse? I figure I will keep an eye on it and take her in if it bothers her or gets much worse but I hate to subject her to an exam and possible filling at such a young age.

Dentists normally don't do fillings in baby teeth.....usually they just pull them.
Hope its not a cavity! Good luck!

Our ped dentist will avoid pulling baby teeth if at all possible. He says it messes up the development of the mouth and causes spacing issues if pulled they will fill them at a young age if needed.

I would take her to the dentist. The new recs for detal care are 12months but we see a pediatric dentist and he says 2yo unless there is a problem. So she should start having check-ups soon anyway. It will be much easier to fix if you catch it early before it goes deep.

See the healthcare side of me says take her in and see how it goes. The mommy side says don't let the mean dentist hurt my baby. Maybe I will call the dentist for an idea of what we can expect.

Do you give her fluoride? Our ped prescribes flouride but warns not to give too much because it can cause spots. I would schedule a cleaning and check up.

I'm just going off what I've been told. I have a family friend who's dd has had a few teeth pulled and she's only 6. Usually when they pull a baby tooth they put a spacer in to avoid any issues. Every dentist may be different though.

Ya my friend takes her kids to a dentist who will pull them. I was just saying what ours does.
