Anybody here with more than one set of spontaneous twins?
Just got a somewhat unexpected bfp. My frat twins are 2.5. I am also a twin and my great grandma had two sets of frats. I know my chances are higher - esp. bc of my family history, age, and # of past pregnancies. Just wondering if it has happened to anyone else.

Re: Anybody here with more than one set of spontaneous twins?
There are at least 2 moms on here with 2 sets of spontaneous. One mom has ID's and frats and the other has 2 sets of frats. Both of my sets are IVF. However, this pregnancy started out as ID twins which has nothing to do with IVF even though that's how the embryo got there. LOL. I was floored when I found out. A 3rd set of twins would not have surprised me, but I definitely wasn't expecting one to split. So, it can happen to anyone.
![]() ETA - I don't know why, but I feel the need to say that even though this is a lighthearted post, I was and still am devastated over the loss of this identical twin.

Re: Anybody here with more than one set of spontaneous twins?
anyone? Maybe it's not as common as I thought!
The chances in the general population are 1 in 60 for one set you are 3-4 times more likely if you already have a spontaneous set, which I do you are 4 times more likely if your # of previous pregnancies is 3 or 4, which mine is I am also a twin and have twins on both sides of my family. Just wondering what the likelihood is for me. I can't have an us for 2 more weeks!

Re: Anybody here with more than one set of spontaneous twins?
Twins run in my family but my girls are identical, our last pregnancy was fraternal twins but we lost one at 6 weeks and baby River in the 2nd trimester. So we almost had two sets. I have a friend with two sets of fraternal so I know it can happen but I do not know how common it occurs.

Re: Anybody here with more than one set of spontaneous twins?
My dad's cousin has 2 sets of fraternal twins out of her 3 pregnancies. She's adopted, so doesn't know if twins run in her "biological" family or not.

Re: Anybody here with more than one set of spontaneous twins?
Its just like you said OP, not unheard of but certainly not common. It will be hard to wait for those two weeks but you have as high of a chance of having a second set as I have ever heard of!

Re: Anybody here with more than one set of spontaneous twins?
Only one set here, but just wanted to say....I remember reading the statistics were 1 in 60 for spontaneous twins, but once you have one set it goes to 1 in 12. The interesting thing about that to me was that when I got pregnant DH and I had been married for 60 months. So, basically we got pregnant the one month we could have had twins. Now every year that passes there is one month that we could have twins again! I know that isn't how it works really, but that is how I look at it and it is kind of neat.
