Reduced Supply

My DS is 3 months old and is EBF. I feed on both sides each time he nurses, starting on the side that we finished with the time before. Typically, he eats for about 8-10 mins on each side. Lately I've noticed that the left seems less full than the right every time. And occasionally, he will eat on one side and refuse the other. Is there anything I can do to increase the supply on the left? Should I always start on the left first? Should I pump in between feedings? I just don't know what will work.

Re: Reduced Supply

Your baby has gotten more efficient at nursing and doesn't need both sides each time. I wouldn't worry about reduced supply on one side (it is normal for one side to make more than the other). Unless you are having growth problems or reduced wet/poopy diapers, no worries!

This! Tryst yourself mama! If he's gaining, pooping and peeing enough then you're doing great. Babies tummies get bigger and more efficient as they age so they need less!!

Re: Reduced Supply

I feel you though! I have a 5 month old, and remember at about 3.5 mos thinking that i was out of milk. My breasts felt like pancakes for like 3 days, but the little man wasn't crying for more and everything was normal for him. I still have one larger breast than the other, we call it the power boob! I read that your supply evens itself out around this time and the breast just dont need to be as full as in the beginning. good luck, I'm sure youre doing great!

Thanks mommas for your encouragement. Yes he is growing, pooping and peeing like a champ. So I will just keep doing what I'm doing. This is my third DS but the first to nurse so this is new for me. He's been doing great nursing and I just wanted to make sure that I don't mess it up.

As the other mamas said it is totally normal and I'm sure you are doing fine just thought Id share cause it might make you smile. I am currently tandem nursing and my 2 yr old DD calls one side " the tiny nummy" because there is never as much milk in there

how funny! My DH and I named my boobs years ago (LONG story). The Left is Tom and the right is Gwen. We thought about renaming Tom with a girl's name. Maybe he'd perform better if he was a girl.
