My sister in law has lice and my kids were blamed...

I wouldn't treat unless you see lice. Rid and the like are NEURO TOXIC. I wouldn't hesitate to do some of the more natural treatments but please don't "treat" them unless you have too.

What is the oil method? Never heard of it, would live to know more!

Similar to the oil method is the "Mayo" method. Just smother their hair in mayo so it is white and cover it with a cheapo shower cap. (a new unrefrigerated jar is best because cold sucks!) Wait 2 hours or more. (pretend it is a salon treatment and paint toes on the kiddos while waiting!) Then wash and comb (with a NIT comb.) Mayo will just make the hair shiny and it is non-toxic. IF they have bad lice it must be repeated till there are no nits or bugs.

If checking for lice have your girls wear a solid color shirt. Bang the comb on a blank sheet of paper after combing. You would notice itching if they have it.

I agree - it makes me so mad that my kids are the ones being blamed. SIL went to the movies at the beginning of the vacation she could have gotten it from there or somewhere else.

Lice like it at the nape of the neck and behind the ears so check there. You also can use tea tree oil to kill lice. You can buy tea tree oil shampoo or even add a few drops for doing the oil treatment. Oh, and the difference between a nit and a dandruff flake is a nit will pop if you squeeze it with your nail while a flake will smush.
I know how you're annoyed at being accused of spreading the lice but I do have to pity your sister in law. It'd be pretty embarrassing to be told at a salon that they can't do your hair because you have lice.

How long since you have been there? If over 2 weeks then you should be good that you don't have it and didn't get it from her. If less keep checking til it has been a good 2 1/2 weeks I would say since you last saw her.

I also agree no proof it is you. While a pain in the you know what, lice isn't horrible. If you do it right you can treat it easily, if you don't keep getting reinfested from original source. DD did that at school, kept getting it there.

Ask them if their heads itch or see if they scratch a lot. They will if they have lice!

Now my head is itchy just from thinking about them.
