Re: what do you put in your peri bottle?

Just warm water. I'm an ob nurse and that is standard practice at my institution.

I really don't think hibiclens should be anywhere near a vagina, but that's just me. Isn't it contraindicated for use near mucous membranes?

I used witch hazel and warm water, but I've never torn, either. It was mostly for swelling. I totally forgot that I need to get some.

Re: what do you put in your peri bottle?

I am so happy to find these posts about vaginal care for that pain!! Mine was 2nd degree , 3 years ago, and I only followed the instruction from the hospital that is just using water in the peri bottle. I am sure I will prepare witch hazel for my next delivery. Thanks!!!

I used plain warm water with stitches and without. The last four deliveries I've had no tearing whatsoever but I still don't want to wipe down there. All the bleeding postpartum washes away much better with water than toilet paper.

Ditto. It's quite the concoction. I want to say shepherds purse is in there and comfrey as well as a few other herbs. They make one gallon of it after baby is born and put it in the fridge for you to use after each bathroom trip and two gallons of a different tea they make to drink which helps healing, milk flow, hormones and pooping

Love those midwives

My Dr never said the degrees, but it took her twenty minutes to sew me up. I used just warm water and then a foam to numb the area. My Dr sent me home with extra foam with both my boys.

My MW will use hibiclens for GBS+ patients and do a wash every X hrs during labor. So I dunno. I thought it could be?

I used some sort of herb bath for LO #2, and I loved just warm water with LO #3.

I really didn't ever have any major tearing. Just some small 3rd and 2nd degree tears with LO #2. Nothing I couldn't handle without the peri bottle. I think I actually find the thing really cumebrsome to use and when it's cold .... it's NOT my thing.

Re: what do you put in your peri bottle?

i just used water, and it was enough for me. But the pain from the stitches never bothered me.
