Re: Help me name my little boy UPDATED IN OP

That's strange...I have never heard of a girl named August, only boys.

I've only known female Augusts, however Augustus is a male name.

I'm afraid I only like names that end in N. I think it has to do with my name ending in N, the sound is pleasing for me or something. You will notice both of my boys have two syllable names ending in N. They aren't common though. I will throw some out there in case you might want to try them.

Liethan (was supposed to be Tharen's name)
Phaolan
Adair
Oisin
Leander
Frost (Tharen's middle name)

I only point that out because personally, I prefer not to use GN names and noticed your hubby doesn't either. I accidentally ended up with one. When we picked my son's name, I had NO clue that some people think of it as a girl name. Sure enough, it can go either way. I still like it, but sometimes I regret using it because I really don't prefer GN names, especially on boys.

No suggestions though. Sorry. I like Everett and Elliot.
August is #398 for boys, not in the top 1000 for girls in the US. I have never heard of it for a girl. But these days, it seems like you can name a girl just about anything....to me, that doesnt necessarily mean that it is gender neutral. I would just think of it as a boy name on a girl.

maybe it is also a regional thing?

My boys middle names:
Laketon
Case
Morgan

I have a Lincoln as well, but again...ends with an n.
apparently I like names that end with n since each of my boys has at least one name that ends with n. Ha! Never had noticed that like that before.

I've only known girls with the name August. But I've known males with Augustus.

That's what I think of my son's name. I think it's all boy and would never name a girl it. But, unfortunately, many others think of it as GN. I don't get it because for a boy, the name is in the top 100, not high, but there. But for a girl, it's 815. However, the year prior, it wasn't even in the top 1000. It went up 185 slots in one year. It's obviously gaining popularity with girls. And, it's because there is now a female celebrity with that name. She's not a huge name, but big enough.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know since you said your husband doesn't want a GN name and I think of August as a girl's name. I know it bothers me that some people think of my son's as a girl's. And, it bothers me that it is gaining. Had I known, I might not have gone with it. I was blindsided by it and it's too late now. Oh well. I still like my son's name and have since I was a pre-teen. And, the great thing about being parents is....it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks!
