A late start, but I want to try EC. Help! :)

My daughter will be one on August 24th. How do I start the EC process at her age? Get her a potty and just start by sitting her on it? Go diaperless? I am trying to learn her cues for when she needs to go. (She's the youngest of three and regrettably I havent thought about learning them before now). Any advice would be great. I read the notes on EC, but I know we're starting late and it may be more difficult. Thanks!

We did EC with our kids after age 1, and even though it was a 'late' start, I still felt like it was useful, particularly with PTing. I would get a little potty and do some diaper free time. There are two books that I think are great- "Diaper Free Baby" has chapters on doing EC with mobile babies and toddlers. And "Diaper Free Before 3" is all about using the potty and doing EC after 12 months. Good luck!

Naked time I think is best. And when you see your child going make the cueing sound and say, "oh, you're peeing/pooping". Try putting her on the potty at regular times. After waking up is usually good and about 20 mins after drinking. The book Diaper Free Baby is good too. Also start putting your little one in diapers that allow her to feel when she is wet and change her as soon as she is. This helps her to become aware of her elimination and keeps her from being comfortable in a wet diaper.

Thanks for the references and advice ladies! I'm off to look at potties! I think we'll really start next month when my oldest 2 start school and we have more time to SIT on the potty regularly.
