At what age would you not want to BFIP anymore? I'd fine with it until probably 3 or 4 y/o.

Re: Too old to BFIP
For me personally, I didn't like it once DD hit about 10 months because she moved so much that a cover was impossible and I knew I'd be flashing way more than I liked without a cover with her latching/unlatching, looking around all the time, etc. DD weaned at 13 months though, so I didn't have to really think about this too much.

I'm still doing it at 18 months. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Of course I get stared at but whatever.

Re: Too old to BFIP
I nursed my toddler at the public pool. I don't remember how old she was at the time. She is currently 13 years old so it has been a while. I don't remember thinking about it. She needed to nurse for whatever reason so she did.

Re: Too old to BFIP
When they wean. If all of the moms who are nursing their 5- and 6-year-olds did it in public in your area, 3-4 wouldn't seem that old. The more you see it, the more normal it becomes. Unfortunately here in the US we are shamed into hiding our children under blankets when we nourish them.
Nobody hides their kid under a blanket when they feed their 3-year-old nasty candy or soda. Nobody hides their 5-year-old under a blanket when they are stuffing their faces with McDonalds. Nobody hides their child under a blanket when they are screaming their head off and throwing a fit in the grocery store. Nobody hides under a blanket while they suck down a cigarette with their children in the car and all of the windows rolled up. Yet, we still can't *figure out* why we have an obesity epidemic, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and horribly-behaved youngsters in this country. Don't ever be afraid or ashamed to nurture and nourish your child in the view of other people. When you nurse in public, whether it be a newborn or a school-aged child, you are setting a wonderful example of mothering which many more should follow. Furthermore, you are sending a message to your child, loud and clear, that you will always care for them and meet their needs no matter where you are, or in whose company they need you.

I let my kiddos wean themselves. So far none have gone past two years of age, but most made it pretty close. My lil guy is still nursing at 22 months and going strong. He will probably be nursing the longest.
No signs he wants to stop. As far as nursing in public, I usually don't need to at this point since he never requests it while we are out and about.

^^^Here in Ontario, Canada it is legal for a woman to be equally nude to a man wherever such states of partial dress or undress are allowed. (i.e. Topless in public without a sexist gender bias, like when I'm mowing my lawn in July). I think that's a basic human right, not to discriminate between male and female nipples based on contemporary cultural sexualization of said body part. This is not about sex...the law is not about breastfeeding, either, which is protected separately. It is about granting women and men equal power over their bodies, and not legalising a gender-specific sense of shame.

It's certainly not a matter of shame. Breast feeding for me is a private, intimate thing that I prefer not to do it public. Not because I'm worried about making others uncomfortable, but because if I'm uncomfortable then I'm not doing my nursing child any favors by being so.
