Colds really screw with asthma. If all 3 kids get a cold, my asthma kid is always the last one better, and cough.

If he is bad enough to be on liquid steroids, we are always on albuterol every 4 hours around the clock, per the pulminologist. Ours is very agressive. His stance is that he would rather over medicate than cause lung damage from out of control asthma.

Also, you might talk to your doc about Pulmicort. It works differently than other asthma drugs and doesn't get absorbed in the body and cause the side effects of other asthma drugs (it stays in the lungs).
Thanks ill mention that tom!

DS1 did not respond to the liquid albuterol but nebulized it did wonders. Keeping hyper hydrated helps thin the mucus and makes it easier to get out. Percussion can help with that as well, so you might want to have a pulmonary specialist show you how to do it well.

If it gets bad enough and I'm assuming it is pretty bad if you are positing here, I'd consider taking her to the ER. I would not mess with breathing. Hope she feels better soon.

Try the peppermint. It was funny but worked. We kept peppermint candy everywhere just in case.

I also put Vicks vapor rub on my daughter's feet and then put socks on over it. Sounds crazy but it works.

I feel your pain, Mama!

My 4 year old DS has been coughing/wheezing for approx. 6 weeks now with no sign of relief. We've been to the ped 4 times, the ER once (for a middle of the night coughing fit where DS was having trouble breathing) and our next step is a pulmonologist. The ped has done breathing treatments, Albuterol inhalers, a round of steriods and a round of antibiotics - and none of helped. We have no idea what we're dealing with.

I hope your child gets relief soon!!
