1. Cost effective
2. Self-reliance/sustainability/resourcefulness. This ones a bit different than cost, and is independent of the environment. Even if disposables were slightly more expensive, I'd still be drawn to cloth. I just really like being self-sustainable and knowing that I don't need to rely on buying something regularly, only to throw it away. It makes me feel like a resourceful homemaker! 3. Chemicals/health reasons 4. Environment 5. Cute and fun like woah

Re: Why YOU chose cloth...rank reasons
As previously mentioned...Easier potty-training is an added bonus!
But initially (with my first), it was an environmental thing and minor cost factor Now, it's still an environmental thing, but it's also fun and cute. With my first, I had plain white flannel and then kooshies. Now I'm going WAHM and pairing them with woolies. This time, theres little cost savings, but my source of cheap entertainment (DS, Spots, etc) So somehow I have to believe it balances out. But, I guess, if I had to give one reason...The Environment.

Re: Why YOU chose cloth...rank reasons
Health is the only reason I cd. I consider the environmental and cute factors a bonus.

Re: Why YOU chose cloth...rank reasons
EASIER POTTY TRAINING - I put this first because they're a lot easier for EC, which we do
.NO SCARY INGREDIENTS (polyacrylic acid, dioxin, etc.) I like knowing exactly what's against my baby! COST EFFECTIVE - this was the biggest reason for my first, though that has changed now that we EC our babies -FITS BABY BETTER (fewer blowouts, leaks, etc.) - I do like the fit of cloth and ability to add doublers -BETTER FOR BABY'S SKIN -GREAT FOR ENVIRONMENT - I'll admit that seeing the few bags of diapers we've used since the move grossed me out! -THEY LOOK GREAT/COLLECTIBLE - this ended up last but I do like the look of a cloth bum!! It's hard to order the last few. |

Re: Why YOU chose cloth...rank reasons
I started for:
1-Containment (ebf ds blowouts and heavy wetter tube-fed dd at the time) 2-Cost (actually got grants to pay for dd's cloth with regular sposie allotment amts...and she didn't grow for years, stash heavy!) 3-Retail therapy (buying sposies at store vs. getting to shop around online for budgeted cuteness?) 4-Maggots in the outside sposie diaper pail. 5-Almost always prefer reusable items to disposable. I'm a china rather than paper plates kinda gal. No scary Ingredients and Environment have been great added benefits that I've grown to value. I also love not having to go to the store often to keep up baby's needs. We do food co-ops and such so I can space out my trips... A cloth stash and breast feeding means baby is good to go/stay.

Re: Why YOU chose cloth...rank reasons
honestly, the biggest reason is that disposables just plain gross me out. i use them sometimes, but when they're wet they get all mushy and stinky and nothing ever gets rid of the stink. a wet or poopy cloth diaper stinks for a short time. the poop gets sprayed off so there's almost no poop residue in the diaper pail, and then they all get washed. the waste goes to the waste treatment plant, the diapers come out smelling nice, and i'm not putting a huge mountain of stinky mushy plastic diapers in the landfill.
the second reason is comfort. i like cotton panties. i hate plastic/paper maxi pads. i imagine the comfort factor for diapers would be a similar comparison. little bums need to be in comfy cloth. cost isn't a savings for me. i can get disposable diapers really cheap and i've spent just as much on cloth when you factor in washing and drying, and i'm only having one kid in cloth, not having any more kids. but, i'm hoping i'll be able to get some of the money back on resale. |

I started for environmental reasons. Even if cloth would've been more expensive, I still would CD.
Now, after learning about chemicals, I like not having that on DDs bum. I've also streamlined and sold a bunch, so I'm saving money, which is a huge plus! I know when DD outgrows or PLs, I can still make a little money from selling our stash. Even if I sell for dirt cheap, that's still a little bit extra. I can't imagine selling a sposie.
