leaving 13 month old for 3 nights
My first child nursed and slept in her crib on schedule (she set it) for 26 months, during which I traveled for business four nights away at a time every few months. Yea breastpump.
My second child, currently 13 months, co-sleeps, nurses on demand, and does not consistently fall asleep on his own. I have managed to not spend any nights away from him since birth (just a happy coincidence) but must travel for 3 nights without him in a couple of weeks. I don't plan to have any pumped milk stored up for him (he has no interest in a bottle) and I plan to pump to keep up a supply while away. Any advice on setting him and everyone else up for success regarding no mom, no boob, no milk, and no co-sleeping/sleeping in crib? (my husband doesn't feel confident he won't roll on top of him at night.) Sent from DS Forum..... probably while nursing.... please interpret accordingly |

I would still pump and offer it to him in a cup. He's going to need to drink something, and that will help keep his digestion the same and his tummy feeling good I would think. Otherwise I have no advice!

Re: leaving 13 month old for 3 nights
Best advice: Prepare yourself for it to not go well.
I am speaking from my own experience of one night away. I was still pumping/bottle feeding and an experience co-sleeping dad. Even still it didn't go well. Its a lot to throw at such a young one. Maybe try the bottle option by pumping now and letting daddy give some bottles. Maybe pre-try to crib thing. If the trip has to happen, it does and will. It may not go well and you may return to an exhausted family, but Baby will absolutely survive, as will Hubby. Good LUCK!!!

Re: leaving 13 month old for 3 nights
DD got left for a week at that age with grandma. She was fine! She got left again last week for a week while DS was in the hospital, was sick as a dog, and was fine. Its harder on mom than it is on kiddo.
I would work super hard on a sippy cup with him, and whole milk if you aren't leaving any pumped milk. Whoever has baby has just got to roll with it. I would try to stop co-sleeping now before you go so baby is used to it, though. Honestly, its only 3 nights.

It will be fine. Kids adapt really quickly. The first night is bound to be tough, but likely the next two will be better. I'm guessing that your hubby will give up on the crib though.
