Hi! I'm a FTM and due on Sept 2. In order to save money, my husband and I plan to CD. I've read that you're supposed to use special detergent with CDs. Could someone tell me why and what brands are best and economical? Thanks!

Re: New to CDing
I use my normal All Free & clear. Others have success with Tide.

Welcome. I have tried a lot of different detergents over the past 4-5 years. We have had the best luck with Tide.

Re: New to CDing
LOL, that is a LOADED question! You may have to try many different ones before you find the "right" one. I tried Rockin' Green, BumGenius, and Country Save on my BG 4.0's but my babies were still breaking out in rashes. Finally had to turn to cotton/hemp fiber fitteds with wool covers and found that they no longer broke out and that Charlie's Soap worked just fine. I hope that you find the right one for your little one once he/she arrives! All the best

Re: New to CDing
Welcome!! I am new to cding as well. This is what I read on Nickisdiapers.com
"Use a laundry detergent that is free of dyes, perfumes, enzymes, brighteners, bleach and softeners. Laundry additives may prematurely break down elastic, hook & loop and waterproof material. Follow diaper manufacturer recommendations when considering these. (Recommended detergents: Country Save, or Arm & Hammer Sensitive Skin" Just to save myself from ordering online, I bought the A&H Sensitive to try out since it was at my local supermarket. Goodluck mama

Most people seem to have success with Tide Original. I tried Country Save and ended up with stinky diapers, but switched to Tide and haven't had problems since!
