Do you send a gift to a teacher on the first day of school?

Ok, first I have to say I didn't attend a public school until my sophmore year in HS. So I don't really know how things are "done" yet. Ds1 starts kindergarten in aug. For preschool we did small gifts/cards at the end of school. I was wondering if anyone makes a habit of sending a small something on the first day too? I was thinking mabey a bag with some extra school supplies or something?

Yes, we've always done it, and at the end of the year we send a small parting gift. I don't do anything extravagant for the first day, just a small school-related gift like school supplies arranged neatly in a basket.

I normally send double the amount of school supplies and everything on the wish list.

This is totally along the lines of what I was thinking. Do you bring it in or send it along with your kiddo?

Any teachers wanna tell me what their most used supplies are?

I send ours in a separate bag with ds. His things are labeled and the extras are not.

A bag from 31gifts would be nice instead of a basket. Every teacher prob has a gazillion baskets but a nice tote/bag/orginizer would be something she could use!

I actually like my baskets. I either store toys in them in the room. Or it's our library basket to take books down to the library. If it's a sturdy rectangular one I put it in the classroom library filled with books.

We send tissues. Our school does send out donation lists- supplies that are used, but not required for the kids to bring themselves. Stuff they always run out of and then the teacher ends up paying out of pocket for. A lot of stuff changes, but glue sticks (the kids actually do bring this as part of there supplies but they always run out. Some kids use a lot or the parents only send the bare minimum required), construction paper and tissues are always on there.

At our school, every teacher puts their wish list stuff at the door to their classroom with sticky notes so you can grab some stuff to get for the room. So every year we grab 4-5 items and get those for the teacher. This is stuff like tissues, dry erase markers, candy (for the teachers that do treats), in K the teacher wanted a couple pairs of spare pants for any accidents that might occur, hand soap or wipes (it varies teacher to teacher which they prefer), colored paper (our school only supplies the teachers with white paper so they always would like reams of colored paper).
