Re: Talk to me about cartoons...

We don't have a tv, but we do have laptops and amazon prime! Mine LOVE Barney! Lille is always requesting Barney even when they don't get to watch something. They also like Yo Gabba Gabba. Those are the only things they've seen other than Brainy Baby and Baby Einstein videos (bought of which they love!).

Oh yeah -- they did see Toy Story when we were on vacation (my parents had it) and really loved it. They'd watch it for about 30-45 minutes not the whole movie.

We don't have cable and usually have PBS kids on. DD is 3 now and into most of the lineup, but at 2 she loved Super Why and liked the Cat in the Hat and Clifford too.

I love PBS Kids because they are all either educational or have a good message. And no commercials! DD hates commercials.

The only cartoon we allow is YoGabbaGabba. She gets it while I'm taking a shower.

We needed something to use in emergencies for our 5day across country move and tried out a few things and most of them annoyed me. But, we like to sing and we like YGG, so that's what we have.

She loves DJ Lance.

Re: Talk to me about cartoons...

My suggestion would be to check out your library and rent a few DVDs of different shows to see what your child likes and what you can tolerate. Then either keep rent those or buy them.

Every child of mine has loved something different at that age, so its hard to say what any one kid would love. DD was obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

I will say, none of mine really got into Scooby until they were about 5 or so.

VeggieTales!

My kids love the veggies. We only watch TV a couple times a month (for a special treat or if mommy really needs a break), so we just own several on DVD and rotate through them. Costco carries 2 packs of them for $8 from time to time, so we're always on the lookout for new ones.

My 2.5 year olds love Shaun the Sheep and Timmy Time. There are lots of Peppa Pig episodes on youtube, it's cute. We mostly get library dvds and own a few too or watch pbs.

Re: Talk to me about cartoons...

Thomas and Superwhy are our favorite. I really like Superwhy.

I much prefer netflix for the leapfrog and other videos. Its cheap and streams to the iPad. I have also gotten a few prereading/phonics videos at Costco that are great. I rationalize it is ok as it is educational. He chooses these over anything. Leapfrog was cheaper at Costco at one point.

We waited till two to do tv. My son isn't a big tv person. Right now all he watches is Thomas and otherwise everything is on the iPad.

Re: Talk to me about cartoons...

Having kids 5 years apart my almost 2 yo sees a variety of cartoons. We don't have cable, but have netflix. I try screen the shows and have my oldest turn off anything with nonsense humor (think spongebob). My little actually asks for curious George, blues clues and phineas and ferb by name. I love watching word world with her, but we don't have even the "free non cable channels
