Re: Will you find out the gender? Why or why not?
We will be finding out. I don't really care for surprises and I'm a major planner so if I can know, I will. I also want to know because if it's a boy we have most of what we need, but if it's a girl I'm starting all over with clothes since DD will be 6 1/2 by the time this little one comes.

We're having a baby, not creating a new consumer. Gender-neutral stuff makes me gag. It's disgusting how consumer-driven the "baby market" is. Anything plastic or gender-specific will be received with grace and gratitude, and promptly donated to the local shelter or returned for store credit to buy lightbulbs and toilet paper for DH (the boys and I use FC). I have made it as clear as humanly possible to our family and friends that gifts of casseroles, soups, or other meals would be a real help. Babies don't need all that "stuff". We will welcome this baby without the pre-conceived notions of who he or she may be based on society's stereotypes, and instead let them unfold and become whoever they are innately destined to be. If there is a need for an ultrasound, we will have one to address that need, but the sex of the baby will not be known until birth, and the gender of the baby will not be known until they express their gender as they grow and develop into the child, teen, and adult that they will become.

Re: Will you find out the gender? Why or why not?
You know... I'm pretty mainstream in a lot of ways but the gender thing gets to me. Reading this article is what converted me...
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-c...ring-Pink.html It's basically explains how the division of pink for girls and blue for boys arose... whereas children formerly wore gender neutral clothing. It basically comes down to needing to sell more. And that just grosses me out. Leave my kids alone at least until they're old enough to express choices themselves.
