Best shoes for new walker!

DD is 8 mos, pulling herself to standing and taking steps along the couch, yay! Up until this point DD is barefoot or socks. I don't mess with shoes before kids need them. Looks like I might be needing them in the next few months. Any recommendations? TIA!

Pedipeds were my favorite with my daughter. The bottoms are really flexible, and the styles are so cute.

I used Stride Rites with my son.

Robeez are my favorites for early walking. They are so soft and non-slippery on the bottom. My 17 month old is wearing Pediped sandals this summer and I like them a lot but they are pretty slippery on carpet and sometimes other smooth surfaces.

We never bothered with soft-soled shoes. I know that they are convenient in some cases, but I never really saw the necessity in our case. Once they are walking well, without assistance, and have started to pick up speed, we go to Stride Rite. We usually get a pair of sneakers and a pair of casual/church shoes each. It gets expensive, but DH & I both feel that it is important for them to have developmentally appropriate shoes.

We do Robeez from the beginnings of walking until around 2.5-3 years old

Robeez for everyday wear. They even make a more breathable sandal style. For church we have couple pedipeds I bought off eBay. I like them fine but like others said, they're slippery and she falls a lot in them.

Re: Best shoes for new walker!

I buy Pedipeds for DS. He's also had one pair of Stride Rite (also had Robeez before he started cruising, but they are too thin for walking outside IMO), but the Pedipeds seem more flexible, so we are sticking with them. The newer styles of Pedipeds have a different tread pattern on the bottom that makes them not slippery. I just bought two pairs and one had the newer tread pattern and one didn't, so you have to check to see if the style you are buying has it. The tread is like a small checkered pattern and it's still made from leather, but it feels kinda like rubber because of the pattern on it.

OMG baby shoes are expensive! I don't pay this much for my own shoes! My babe is cruising around the park at 6 months, but I am not about to drop $35 for shoes that he'll outgrow before his first birthday. Boooo.
