Irregular cycles and when is "late"?

So I had a tubal ligation done in August of 2010 when my girls were born.

My cycles are irregular and have been for every since then. They range from 28 days to 70 days with MOST cycle between between 35-38 days in length for the last year.

Today I am on CD 43.

I haven't tested because it seems like a waste of money when the chances are so slim

My question is, at what point does someone with irregular cycles decide it's time to test? I'm not temping or charting really, just monitoring start and length because it's not really been an issue before.
