Bleeding After D&C For Retained Placenta

Last Wednesday, I had a D&C at 16 days postpartum. I had a sonogram done before the D&C and they said there were "irregularities" that they thought were pieces of retained placenta, but could also be blood clots or thickening of the uterus. Whatever they got out during the D&C was sent to a pathologist to determine what it was, but I never heard anything about it and didn't follow up.

There was also a LOT of blood pooled in my uterus that had to be suctioned out. I was put on meds to make the uterus contract to avoid having it fill up again. I took all of the meds and never felt any cramping, but I was also on tylenol with codeine and ibuprofen, so maybe that's why.

After the D&C, I bled bright red for a couple days (not much bleeding, though....I only needed to change my pad a couple times a day and even then it wasn't full) and yesterday I pretty much had no bleeding anymore. But last night and today I've started having quite a bit of dark red bleeding. Not enough to soak through a pad in an hour, but enough that I can feel small gushes of blood coming out and when I sit on the toilet, it drips out (sorry if that's TMI).

If it continues, I'll call my doctor tomorrow, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with a situation like this and what happened with it? My mom freaked me out by telling me I could need a hysterectomy if it doesn't get taken care of....

Sounds normal to me. Kinda like PP bleeding directly after birth. I bleed pretty bad for the first few days. I've had a D&C but barely bleed.
