Teaching myself and PreSchooler Spanish?
I want to learn Spanish, I have been given a break from work (from my DH) and am considering a break from my formal school as well.
I am looking at purchasing Rosetta Stone, to teach myself, and to also teach my children Spanish. Any thoughts? Is this silly? |

Re: Teaching myself and PreSchooler Spanish?
I don't think it is silly. I had two years of Spanish in HS but retained very little. I'd love to actually learn to speak it as well as read it. I do know that The Head of the Class offers Spanish for 5th grade. I'm pretty sure they'd have it for lower grades as well.

Re: Teaching myself and PreSchooler Spanish?
I just purchased Rosetta Stone for my husband to use to fine tune his English. Its a really well made program. He's working on disc one right now, so I'll let you know if i see any changes in his actual language usage. It did cost a lot of money.

Re: Teaching myself and PreSchooler Spanish?
There are a couple programs written for little ones. The DVDs "Whistlefritz" of course are immersion DVDs.
Curricula: Flip Flop Spanish La Clase Divertida |

Re: Teaching myself and PreSchooler Spanish?
I'm learning Spanish along w/my 6 yr old. We're using La Clase Divertida. I enjoy it, and Ivy is retaining what's taught. I have some slight issues w/it, but that's a personal thing and not a curriculum thing.
Personally, I would skip Rosetta Stone for a young child. It's not going to be "fun" enough, kwim? It's a good program, just very straight forward. You could also look at Salsa Spanish (free, online videos).

Re: Teaching myself and PreSchooler Spanish?
Just remember if you don't use it you will lose it. If you can find someone who speaks spanish learning and retaining long term will be easier.
I learned spanish as a child. I even went to my first year of school in Mexico. Today my spanish is very bad. I haven't had anyone to speak it with for the last 14 years. |

I hear that if you are not exposed to it as a child you will never eat your pronunciation right?? |
