Can I put a whole frozen chicken in the crock pot?

HELP! I forgot to let it defrost so can I put the whole thing in the crock pot to cook if I give it an extra long time to cook?

Oh yes! That is the only way I cook mine, it usually takes around 6-8 hours to cook. i put in all of my seasonings and let it go.

Yes you can, however one word of caution. Most of the whole chickens I buy come with a bag of gizzards in the body cavity. If it's a parchment bag, no worries, but sometimes it is a plastic bag. You want that out before you cook it, and that's tough to get out when it's frozen.

Yep... just figured this out. CRAP! I have it soaking in the sink so it will hopefully thaw enough to pull the bag out.

I have heard that you should not do this, because it spends too long in the "danger zone"- a.k.a. the temperature is not hot or cold enough to prevent bacteria from growing.

Do it at least once a week... The inards in the chickens I get are in some sort of paper type bag, so I just pick it out when I take the bird out to debone it. Here's a blog post I did on it a while back.

FWIW, I also do the same thing with roasts (pork and beef).
