Must haves for newborn baby!

I would love to hear what all you mama's out there consider a must have for a newborn baby/ young infant. What was your saving grace? Tell me items you "couldn't live without."

Just curious to know what made your life easier with a new baby.

Re: Must haves for newborn baby!

I could not live without a billion receiving blankets, my nursing pillow, snapped onesies that do up in the front with the flap. Zippered sleepers (you already did a thousand snaps up on the onesies... why add more?

On the "gear" side of things, the only thing I REALLY used a lot of was the fisher price infant to toddler rocker, and an exersaucer when DD was a little older. She hated to be reclined but couldn't stand up on her own yet.

carseat, diapers, boobs (or bottles), depending on season maybe some clothes (my summer baby didn't wear anything more than a diaper at home and pretty much only wore clothes when we went somewhere)...that's about it for the bare necessities "must-haves". Obviously somewhere safe to put baby down on occasion is helpful...whether that be a crib, playpen, bouncy chair, swing...just *something*. I love the versatility of large muslin swaddling blankets...they're great for swaddling, make a nice little play blanket/area, are awesome lightweight nursing covers, and I've used them as flat diapers in a pinch as well...and of course...as evidenced by my avi, they make great peek-a-boo toys too

Re: Must haves for newborn baby!

besides the obvious (car seat and carrier like a mei tai, woven wrap, sling, etc), I add:

lambskin (DS6 has slept on his on our bed, from day 1)
boppy (helps with reflux and I prop him up on the couch during the day to look around)

aside from that- amber necklace, t-shirts (we don't do onesies or sleepers, so t-shirts is all we need), a few blankets (I like the gymboree ones for softness and I never swaddle, so these are great all purpose), flats and wool soakers. I don't see this as a necessity, but I do like a bouncy chair when I need to take something out of the oven or eat something messy, like tacos, lol. I don't use or need pnp's, cribs, strollers, bottles, etc so a nb is pretty low maintenance here as far as stuff we buy.

There are the obvious things you NEED like carseat and food but for things that I love and could (but don't want to) live without are boppy and beco butterfly 2. That's it. DS is 6 mths and still doesn't care to be put down. He has probably spent at least half of his life in the carrier or on the boppy on my lap.
