Etsy buyer wants to send a money order

I've done it many times. Cash the sucker, don't deposit.

Even if you cash it and it comes back fraud you are responsible for the money. I would never accept a money order now that i have worked for a bank and seen all the counterfeit money orders and cashier checks.

I would just give it 2-3 days to clear the bank, then you're in the clear.

That's actually not entirely true. I've seen banks take money orders and clear them, only to find out later they were counterfeit. And then remove the money from the casher's account. Then it becomes a civil matter. I wouldn't personally feel comfortable for a while after, but that's just me.

Tell her to get a money order from the post office. They are the safest bet, I think, since you take it right to the post office to cash it, and they will know if it's real or not, up front. I have accepted personal checks through eBay before, too, without any problems.

I wouldn't Mama, unless it's a Postal Money Order and she can link you to feedback she has on different sites. I personally don't accept them for my Etsy store because of the lack of security and ease...but I would accept them from a good standing repeat customer KWIM? Good Luck!

It can take up to 30 days for your bank to find out it counterfeit. I highly highly do not recommend it. They can get a prepaid visa or mastercard or a moneypack. I cant tell you how many times u have seen them come back.

This. The only way I would ever accept a money order for online payment is if it was a USPS money order. And I would NEVER deposit it in my bank- instead take it to the post office to verify it's authenticity.
