Book recommendations for 14 month old

Hi all! My DS is very very in to books. We need more books. I've exhausted all the board books the library has to offer. We've gotten a couple of paper page books and he has done very well with being gentle with the pages. I think we are ready to check some paper page books out of the library. The problem is that he is still a 14 month old and can't tolerate too many word on a page yet. He loves to flip pages. The paper page books we've had success with are Dr. Seuss's ABC book, and a couple early reader Bernstein Bears books. I'd like to be able to look for specific titles instead of flipping through random books at the library and trying to determine if they would be appropriate length wise. So, suggestions???

Re: Book recommendations for 14 month old

I would just be careful. DD loves books and is quite gentle with them... but.. she has ripped a few pages recently (22 months).

so, she's not allowed to read them without assistance.

as for books with too many words, I usually start describing the page, just asking her to point to certain object, etc. She loves flash cards and she loves to be quizzed, so she's good with that.

If I want to read the longer pages, I use my finger to underline the words as I'm reading and that lets her know why we're so long on that page. She likes to do it as well. I also skip unnecessary things. Like, we have a book with animals asking 'do you love me mama' and I never read the 'momma duck says/etc", I just start with 'yes, little one...' Even those few short words make a difference.

And I will sometimes break up the length of words with 'point to the ladybug' or 'what does the duck say', etc.

so, that's not a list of books for you.. but maybe helpful anyways.

and remember.. even if you're bored of those books.. babies love repitition. How many times a day do I read certain books? She chooses them and brings them to me and it's the same ones. The only way I get her to expand her interests is by rotating what's available. So, you might be bored with them.. but baby might be very interested still.

It took 3-4 nightly readings for 20 months before my daughter started rejecting 'Good Night Moon'. Which does remind me of a recommendation: 'Runaway Bunny'

I should add that I trust your judgment, and that my daughter was into books, but like Emily said, be on guard, because at that age all the way through 3 you never know when they will get some crazy notion about destruction.

She shocked and disappointed me a couple of times with senseless destruction.

First the Egg is awesome.

Go dog go. My son walks around the house, sometimes for a half hour or so, looking for this particular book, and wants us to read it SEVERAL times in a row.

We love the Sandra Boynton books too! Do they come with paper pages? All of ours are board books.
