Extremely organized?
Any of you minimalists and extremely organized or working towards that.
I need ideas for organization. I would consider myself a mini minimalist and need to be more of one but I struggle with organization. I need inspiration or ideas and I long for uniformity! What are your secrets and systems?

Re: Extremely organized?
Yes I am aspiring to be an uber organized minimalist. I have to finish purging before I really work on the aesthetic aspect of the organizing but I am getting closer each day. I like the blog iheartorganizing.blogspot.com for inspiration. She is not a minimalist per say but she does talk about purging stuff and cutting back to more minimums and how nice it is. She has some really good ideas.

Re: Extremely organized?
I was organized till we moved 3 weeks ago
. In the new house it is virtual chaos. It will take me a few months, with baby due anytime, to get back on the bandwagon. O well. Good luck!

My fave FlyLady quote is "You can't organize clutter."

Re: Extremely organized?
I just checked out a bunch of (albeit somewhat dated, LOL) organizing books from the library. The one that looks the most promising is One Year to an Organized Life by Regina Leeds. Not because it promises to get your home organized in a year, but it goes past the "put stuff in cute boxes" that every book and blog has. It seems to put more emphasis on what you want to feel and what you need to do in each room, rethink your processes that keep clutter and disorganized, etc. I have only skimmed it and read one chapter in full, but it looks promising. It certainly is a good companion piece to the books and blogs that are mostly pictures of pretty stuff you may not be able to find.

Re: Extremely organized?
Yes, I'm aspiring, working towards that - I love organising - I have just put all the kids clothes into seasons and sizes and sorted into stackable plastic tubs, I purchased draw organisers and put all the kids socks, singlets, bibs etc in - now they are much easier to find as theya re all seperated not jumbled together.
I am currently working on a launching pad for school mornings - like this one: http://www.fivelittlereasons.com/201...to-school.html if you scroll down you will see the launchpad with all the kids hats, shoes, schoolbags and checklist - it's my goal for the next few weeks! |

Re: Extremely organized?
I'm trying to be a minimalist. By nature I am very very organized. As in, I know where everything is.
When it comes to groceries, I put everything away. That way I can do a mental inventory and I just always know what we have. Whenever I come across things we don't need it goes into a bag. If it isn't worth selling or putting on freecycle, I'll take the whole bag to goodwill once it's full... but usually I find someone willing to re-purpose it on freecycle. Baby is 1 year old. In the living room we have a stacked set of 3 bins for toys. Every few weeks I'll pull them all out and swap them with the toys in the cabinet. I go through and take out the ones she's outgrown to save for another baby or put in the get rid of pile. It's painful to put away toys that I know she is still playing with, but if there's at least 6 or so bigger things I figure that's enough. One bin has race cars, one has musical instruments, and the other has misc. There's also a toy kitchen set and a crib with dolls. So once a day or so I'll just put everything back, but there usually aren't too many toys out. Whenever I get mail that I don't want I call them and ask to get removed from their mailing list. For baby's clothes, I have a bag in the closet for things that we don't like or have been outgrown. And once a month or so I'll go through the drawers and pull out anything that's too small. When that bag is full I'll go through and decide what to save and what to donate. I also have 2 big drawers full of the next sizes of clothes. When we run low on shirts I can grab them out of the next size. She has 2 drawers of clothes and it's almost always got clothes that fit (yay!). No more than 6-12 of any clothing item. |
