Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I have seen both during each pregnancy and much prefer females. I have no problems seeing the male OB during the middle appointments where they dont do much really but as I get to the end I much prefer the couple female OB's. i think they are way more willign to listen to my concerns and issues.

As for delivery. really don't care who catches the babe. With DS1 the nurses did 90% of the work and the dr (who happened to be male) came in when I was ready to push and since he was out in less than 5 pushes it wasn't a big deal. With DS2 the dr. barely made it to the delivery he was so fast.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

Ive always had females, when i was a virgin, it was more comfortable for me. Since I've only been with my husband, I still don't feel entirely comfortable with a male, so I still have a female.

I'm more comfortable around men in general. However, I'm really bad at explaining issues and often use examples. Like, "I had this throbbing tightening pain similar to a period cramp, but in my arm." So I find it easier to get my point across to a woman who has a better chance of having experienced what I'm describing, especially if my issue is period or pregnancy related. When seeing a woman it's usually met with more familiarity rather than textbook knowledge or experience from observation.

Does that make sense?

My OB is male. My midwives are female. It's a good balance for me.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

if the option were there, I would chose have male/prefer male. I saw one of the female OBs in our practice a couple times when my Dr wasn't there, in addition to the NP who was also female, but I far prefer a male OB.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I much prefer a male but I have also been with my OB since I was 17, so 11 years. I LOVE him! He listens to what I have to say and he is very involved. He always asks about my DH and his projects, he wants to know about my boys and he likes to know how work is going. He has been with me through some really rough things and he is one of the most skilled surgeons I know. I'm not sure I would ever let anyone else deliver me.

All that being said, I have severe endo that has scarred my uterus and he has seen it good and bad so I know he has the best chance of catching things going bad before they are catastrophic. If I was normal and had "uncomplicated" deliveries I may feel different, but I think I would still want a male.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

Only ever had female midwives, but I have a male GP who does my Pap smears. I honestly have no preference. I would love a male midwife and there is one here up country.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I had a female for my regular care, used a male for my perinatal care. I prefer male, and will use a male next time. I found that he was much more sympathetic than any female OBGYNs I have been to.
