I go to a practice of all females. When I started going to the OB I wanted a female and I luckily have the most amazing dr ever! All the dr's at the practice are great so I would be comfortable with any of them.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I had a male OB the first time and a midwife the second. I don't like a lot of the female OBs that I've met; not sure why. In my town the female OBs have the highest c-section rates in general.

Didn't read all responses, haven't voted yet.

I prefer a male OB/GYN because he actually listens to me when I tell him things. Every woman I have ever seen, has been extremely rough and has not bothered to listen to any of my concerns, or issues. Plus, generally males have longer fingers and my cervix it tilted and high so it is easier for my male dr to find and check than it is a woman.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I prefer female OBs. My husband prefers that I go to a female OB. I guess he wants to be the only male seeing my parts, lol! It's a comfort level for me. When I went to the ER a few months back a male Dr. Was overseeing the vag US the female Dr was doing and I didn't like it. All females during delivery, although the female Dr. who delivered my first I didn't like to much:/

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

Unless you're special circumstances you don't get a specific OB around here, there is a pool of them and you get whoever has an open appt for your weekly appts starting 36 weeks, and you get whoever is working the shift when you deliver at the hospital, so I have had both male and female and it really doesn't matter one way or the other to me.

I've had the same male OB/GYN since I was 15 years old. He's probably pushing 70 now. He doesn't deliver babies anymore, so I switched to a female OB in his practice during pregnancy. I had 3 female midwives also. I honestly don't have a preference, although I agree with PP's that females can seem less sympathetic at times because they feel like they've BTDT.

Gender is a complete non-issue for me when it comes to choosing a doctor. I think of them exclusively as doctors and not real people with naughty bits, lol.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I have a female MW, who works in an office with two female OB/GYNs. My RE is male, but I've only seen him once and fully clothed -- everything else there has been with female nurses. There was a male OB I had to see a few times at my old OB/GYN office and I'm pretty sure he was Lucifer himself. I don't know that I've ever hated a doctor as much as I hate that man. It was my first and last experience with a male ob/gyn. Never again. I hope that man rots in hell.

Me too. I've never had a male and I won't willingly choose one.

And I know that for giving birth I would have a huge issue with a male being there. I just wouldn't be comfortable at all; I don't know if I just haven't evolved enough or what but kudos to you ladies that are okay with it.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I've seen and delivered with both and have no preference. Personality, bedside manner, and expertise/skill weigh far more heavily in my opinion than gender.
