Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

currently seeing midwives in a midwifery practice, and they are all wonderful! I started this pg seeing a female OB who was awful (didnt explain anything about pregnancy to me, was cold, did unnecessary internal exams at EVERY appt, had me go on semi-bedrest when there wasnt anything wrong). Then I switched to a male OB, who was much much better than the female OB! He was personable and explained more about pregnancy to me and DH, he wasn't looking for problems, like the female OB had been. Really, I have no preference because female OB was SO horrible, and male OB was just fine, and the midwives are wonderful! I think it has to do with the personality and training, not gender.

My OB is a female, and I prefer to see a female... I just feel more comfortable talking with a woman about "women stuff" I guess.

It just seems more comfortable for me to have a female.

This. When I have had too see the male dr, I skip asking questions or talking about anything, just say "I'm doing fine." and leave, so it's pointless for me to go.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I've had female midwives, mainly because there just aren't a lot of male midwives out there
I think I would prefer a woman, but I wouldn't rule out a man. I've had paps done by men and it doesn't bother me, but I think as far as delivering babies goes I'd prefer a woman.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I know it shouldn't matter and I should pick doctors based on education and philosophy, but I would never be able to be comfortable with a male doctor! I can't even go to a male masseur! I just feel like the only man who should ever see me naked (and who I should ever be comfortable being naked around) is my husband!

Have had both, no preference. For me, it's all about the doc's attitude, not their gender.

Re: Male versus Female OB- POLL

I will not go to a female OB. No way no how.

I would use a female MW or doula but I love my OB and trust him so he will be delivering any future LO's.

I know he won't like my birth plan but he will respect it. I won't induce, I don't want an episiotomy and I'm going to try for drug free. He likes to induce so he can have the baby born on his schedule but he doesn't force anything on you. He doesn't cut unless the baby is stuck.
