Prep and care for wool covers

I'd love some advice on how you prep and care for wool. I'm about to finish knitting a pair of shorties for my little one, and this is my first wool item I'm trying. I've ordered some solid lanolin and wool wash; and I've read different things about how to prepare, how long to soak, etc. Any tips are appreciated!

I'm new to wool, too, and just recently bought a used pair of WCW shorties from a mom in our area... I don't' think they were lanolized before I bought them from her, and so I had to learn how to do it! They are currently drying right now, and it will be nice to use them again freshly lanolized! This website has the directions that I followed for lanolizing. The same steps apply to knitted wool, I think, as to interlock wool. I used Lasinoh Lanolin, btw, and Aveeno baby wash.
