Re: what is up with people not pting there kids!
My older 2 were both PT'd at 2.5, but I consider myself VERY VERY lucky. I don't think 3-4 is unheard of at all. It is sooooo much easier if you wait until the child is ready. Mine both PT'd in less than a week once we realized we needed to leave it up to them. Now, if they're ready to start Kindergarten and still in diapers, then there's a problem IMO

Re: what is up with people not pting there kids!
There's a lady I know and she said she knew she should get her dd started on pting (3yrs+) but she was (her words) being lazy and still had tons of diapers left and was just using them up.
Im on the other end of the spectrum and like the idea of ecing which I can believe be started at any time. Of course it doesnt work for all kids or parents. My did lost interest in ecing around 10mos (when she started moving around more) so I laid off. She still does it here and there but I admit Ive gotten lazy about the ecing. Ill try here and there and for poops when I can but there's no hard and fast rules going on. But when she's two Im really going to encourage her more. I know what she's capable of, as in she's got great elimination control and I know she doesnt like wearing diapers at all lol.

Re: what is up with people not pting there kids!
I agree with the others.
My son is 3 and a half and only partly potty trained. Pees in the potty when he is completely pantsless only, but we are working on it. He's struggled a lot. It's not that I "don't care". I'm sure many parents who's kids struggle wish they were PLed. I wouldn't bring my kids to daycare just because I or my DH was sick, but you are getting paid, so why does it matter? hmm...

My 3yo is partially potty trained but not fully. It will come. Oh, how I would LOVE the option to have someone else keep my kids when I'm sick as a dog. Maybe then it wouldnt take a week to get well every time.

Well I've had one who pt'd before 2 all on her own, one who pt'd @2, one @2.5 & one was one month shy of 4. Was I a crappy, lazy parent? No, I introduced it, encouraged it, & followed them.

Re: what is up with people not pting there kids!
My eldest decided, on her 3rd birthday, that she wanted to wear panties. I was surprised, actually, because she had not shown much interest prior. It was "easy" as there were no fights or struggles. I just followed her cues and it worked.

also, if I had access to childcare when I was ill, I certainly would use it.

Re: what is up with people not pting there kids!
I disagree with all of you!
PTing isn't an "accomplishment" and it isn't something that should happen at 3-4 years old (or older). The comment I do agree on is following your child's cues - and by that I mean doing what people did for thousands of years - toileting their infants from birth! Only us lazy Americans with the modern inventions of washing machines and disposable diapers diaper our kids into the preschool years. I started at birth, no not full-time (I worked full-time) but as much as I could, and both of my kids were done with diapers between 15 and 17 months. It's not an "accomplishment" - its ecological, traditional, time-tested parenting. To each his own, but toddlers and preschoolers in diapers grosses me out. If they can talk in full sentences, then they can pee and poop in a toilet. I once saw my cousin's daughter walk behind the couch, squat, poop in her diaper, walk over to the diaper basket, place a diaper on the floor, unfold the changing pad, lay it out, place a pillow on the floor, place a wipes container on the floor, and lay down, waiting to get changed. She was 3. Meanwhile, my 13-month-old told me he had to go potty, so at least I didn't have to witness the poop cleanup and diaper stink, because I was busy toileting my child.

Re: what is up with people not pting there kids!
My son decided to be potty trained on his 3rd birthday. That morning he woke up and said, "Mama, I'm ready to wear big boy underwear today for my party." He did not have one accident that day. It surprised me because we had been trying periodically to see if he was interested by explaining and showing him how daddy goes to the potty and he was just not interested at all.
