Why are toddler sized pre-folds so big? (pics please)

I have quiet a few and after CD two kids and being frustrated by the size I'll be taking scissors to them. The green edge diapers lasted me almost up to 24 months and only then did I switch to the toddler sized one but there was always a large flap making the diapers too bulky.

Why are they so big?
Anyone else experience this or did it fit your kids?
Did you have to cut them to fit?

I don't know why they are so long...... I wish they were wider... that would have been more useful for us.

Don't know either but I sent mine in to be repurposed as prefold trainers (finished product are the trainers in my avi) so that's one good use and she used a rotary cutter instead of scissors

Mine were great width wise, it was just the length that I had a problem with. How much wider did you need and did you customize them to fit?

I know, they are SO tall. I swear, I could wear those things, if they were a little wider!

Mine were great width wise, it was just the length that I had a problem with. How much wider did you need and did you customize them to fit?

My dd1 was particularly chunky as a toddler so we couldn't snappi around them. I didn't mind folding the extra length down in the back.
I did add wing tabs to a lot of them. Like an ETPF.

My lo was wide enough to use them at 4 months but we did fold down a lot. I imagine they would fit a large toddler. They were big but with upcyecled woolies they fit fine. I didn't mind folding down the rise. I was just glad they actually fit around. Now he has slimmed down they are too big.

I loved my toddler refolds when DS was still in diapers. Yes, I folded them down in the back, but to me that didn't make them particularly bulky. I realise that these aren't the best pictures because you can't see the top of his diaper due to his t-shirt, but here is my DS in a toddler prefold at around age 2.5. He weighed about 36-37 pounds and was about 37" tall.

action pictures. Maybe that was the problem for me as I folded them in the front. The reasoning behind that was my DH's concern that if I folded them in the back and my son was sleeping on his back that it would misaligned his spine somehow. Since this was something DH wouldn't budge and I wasn't willing to risk it I folded them in the front hence why EVERY diaper looked 'bulky' to me.

Did any of the mamas who folded down the back have any issues with your kiddos about it?
