Nope not stupid at all. As a pp said atheism is a lack of belief, agnosticism is something between. However Dawkins has a great chapter in the God delusion that talks about true agnosticism vs true atheism. Basically the majority of people who claim to be agnostic do so because they feel the existence God can never be disproved, and therefore it's a fifty/fifty chance so they shouldn't take any position. But the fact that you can't prove the non existence of something doesn't make the chances of it's existence fifty/fifty. I can't disprove the existence of Santa, but given what I know about the world I can put the odds of him existing at less than fifty percent. I don't claim to be agnostic about Santa simply because I cannot disprove his existence. Why should we have a different position toward God?

Wether one is an atheist or a theist deals with belief.

Wether one is gnostic or agnostic deals with knowledge.
The 2 terms deal with 2 different categories. Technically, I am an agnostic atheist. I lack the knowledge (a-gnostic) that god(s) exist, therefore I do not believe that god(s) exist.

For some unknown reason, many people choose to misuse the term agnostic to mean some form of fence sitter who isn't committed either way.
A self professed 'gnostic theist' is a frightening proposition, imho.

Re: An Atheist Mother's Promise

I don't agree with all of it because I am Christian, but I do agree with 99% of it. It's too bad more Christians didn't like like this.
