HIV test and Religious Exemption

I was under the impression no one can specifically question your religious beliefs for religious exemption?

See, again, this isn't a question of whether or not you or your spouse have cheated. It's about you not knowing you have it, passing it to your child, health care staff, etc. Do you realize that if something happens and your nurse/dr/MW is exposed to you or your baby's blood and you haven't had a negative test that they have to take anti-virals and are considered HIV positive until they test negative? I talked to my L&D nurse extensively about it when I was considering it (same excuse as you, 3rd baby in 3 yrs, neg test every time, committed long-term relationship) and she explained this to me and how because of a mom feeling "too good" to take an HIV test and she ended up on anti-vitals that made her horribly sick and subjected her to repeated testing by saving this woman's life and not stopping treatment because her glove had a small tear in it or her foot had a cut in it and blood got all over when mom started to hemmorage.
If you're delivering at home, your MW doesn't care, etc. than great, good for you. But out of respect for your health care providers, get the test if you plan on a hospital delivery.

if you are not in NY then you can decline the test on behalf of your baby as well.

If I were a hcp and had a potential HIV exposure I wouldnt be relying on a negative HIV test done months before.

The problem is that HCPs don't know they've had a potential exposure until A. after the fact, or B. there's preliminary bloodwork done. I work for a hospital system and sometimes we report a needle stick etc when it happens, but then the patient's blood has to be tested and we don't know til after the fact. Of course all precautions are taken to limit exposure, but accidents do happen.

I'm not for/against regulating HIV testing, just stating the healthcare side.

I am really surprised that there are people who refuse the HIV test. I honestly don't see the problem... and I truly don't understand your reasoning behind denying it for you and/or your child...but that's your choice.

That being said.. I cannot think of any Bible scripture that would support not doing an HIV test, especially if you have consented to other blood tests for your children in the past.

I know in some cases where people try to claim religious exemption, prior history is called into evidence, and if the "evidence" is contrary to what you are trying to claim, you may not be allowed to use religion as an excuse.. now, I don't know if this is the case in this type of situation, just something to be aware of as you try to navigate down this road.

Here is a good non-religious reason (because obviously many don't share my religious views): $500 out of pocket, zero justification for it, except "its the law now" which is no justification at all.

HIV can only be contracted human to human, it cannot live outside the body. You can't get it from a dirty toilet seat (even a bloody, dirty toilet seat, with an open wound on your butt), unlike other viruses like hepatitis. The only place I could have contracted it is from my husband, who doesn't have it. He actually got horribly, horribly sick several years ago and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him, and he was tested for HIV among many other things.

I can change my beliefs at any time. Obviously there are no prohibitions to HIV in the Bible, because it wasn't created until the 1960's. The only biblical references that I can think of relate to our body being a temple and the soul living in the blood, hence why I came here, to this diverse group of mamas, to seek other religious references.

I didn't mean to offend you. You asked for religious view points (Biblical and non-Christian), and I was just saying that I don't think there are any verses in the Bible that could be taken to use this.

I hope you can find the answers your looking for. But if you're trying to claim religion as your reason not to do it.. can't you just say "No, my religious belief forbids it." ? and then that would be it?
