Help with Pajama Pants Pattern for size 10/12 girl!!!
I want to sew a simple pair of elastic waist pajama pants for my niece's birthday with an appliqued t-shirt for her theme (sushi!), but I need help with a free pattern or sizing. I know how to make upcycled longies from sweaters, so figure PJ pants work the same except you sew each leg first instead of cutting an arm off a sweater. The problem is, I know my niece wears a size 10/12 (she's a tall, sturdy 8-year-old), but I have no idea what that looks like or what the average waist/inseam/rise would be on this size and can't find a free pattern online that goes to this size.
Anyone know of a FREE pattern for pj pants for big kids, or anyone have a kid who wears a 10/12 that you could measure? I don't really want to ask my sister to measure her daughter in case I don't wind up having time to make them. She also isn't a sewer, likely doesn't have a tape measure, and is too busy and overwhelmed chasing three kids around while her husband is out of town on business for me to add to her plate right now. I don't have any pants to measure, but if I need to see some size that I don't know, I just measure at the store. Free, easy, and you can measure the type of garnet you're trying to replicate!

This is horrible, but you can buy a pair and fold them in half length wise and cut around them x 2 and then return the pants.
There is a great tut on the stickies for making pants.

Re: Help with Pajama Pants Pattern for size 10/12 girl!!!
I'd borrow a pair that fits her and make a pattern from that....just trace, add your seam allowances, and sew....adding in amounts on top for the waistband.
here's a tutorial....but the free pattern is a 3T

Re: Help with Pajama Pants Pattern for size 10/12 girl!!!
The problem is that my niece lives in another state, so I couldn't measure her or get her PJs. I took another persons advice, though, and bought a super cheap pair on summer clearnance in her size to trace. Since my daughter is two years younger, the pair I bought will fit her soon enough, so it wasn't a big loss.
I just finished the sushi pjs tonight. They're cute and hopefully will fit. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. |
